The Evanston-based design/build firm sees two of its projects receive Gold Awards from the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association for 2005 projects.
EVANSTON, ILLINOIS, January 24, 2006 – Chicago Specialty Gardens, Inc. has been recognized by the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association (ILCA) for two of its projects completed in 2005. The company received 2006 Excellence in Landscape Gold Awards for a garden installation in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood and a roof terrace project completed in the city's River North neighborhood. The awards were announced December 13th, 2005 by the ILCA.
Phil Cleland, Chicago Specialty Gardens' President and Owner, credited the firm's Rooftop Garden Designer, Bill Mitchell, and Shawn Weidner, Landscape Designer, with the winning designs. "Both Bill and Shawn devoted a lot of time and energy to perfecting their designs and managing their executions. The use of innovative materials, technologies and construction methods in creating these unique spaces is a direct result of our company's efforts to expand the boundaries of what is possible in urban Chicago garden design/installation."
"Our downtown clients, Jennifer and Jason Parkman, deserve a lot of credit for allowing us to create what is essentially an outdoor living room overlooking the River North neighborhood," continued Cleland. "And Dr. Peter Georgiou, our Lakeview client, allowed us to envision a secluded haven in the city which allows him to entertain and relax while ensuring his privacy."
Both gardens make extensive use of wood and stone, sheltered spaces, landscape lighting, micro-irrigation and a mix of plantings for structure, fragrance and color. Each execution breaks up the available space into distinct functional areas while maintaining an overall design cohesion.
Chicago Specialty Gardens previously received a 2005 Award of Honor from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Illinois Chapter for the Lakeview project.
Chicago Specialty Gardens will receive the awards February 24, 2006 at the ILCA Awards ceremony at Drury Lane in Oak Brook, Illinois.
