The Evanston-based design/build firm is invited to exhibit a rooftop garden at "Garden in a City".
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, March 21st, 2006 Chicago Specialty Gardens, Inc. has accepted an invitation from the Chicago Park District to exhibit a rooftop garden installation at the "Garden in a City" urban horticulture show being presented May 13-21 in Grant Park. To be staged under a 100,000square-foot-tent in Butler Field just north of Buckingham Fountain, the show is intended to offer gardeners "real solutions for real Chicago sites", according to organizer Douglas Hoerr.
CSG will design and install a 25' x 25' "rooftop " garden featuring a water feature, a dining area, lounge area, grill and workspace areas, lighting elements as well as many of the signature outdoor furnishings the firm includes in its work. The work is themed as an homage to Chicago's world-class architectural heritage, and makes use of materials and themes common to Chicagoans.
CSG is one of two dozen firms invited to participate. The show's chief sponsor, Target, will include a new line of garden equipment under the Smith & Hawken brand name. Redmoon Theater Company will provide backdrops and theatrical elements throughout the show, and children's activities and educational programs will be presented in coordination with the Morton Arboretum and the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association.
Participants will vie for prizes of $10,000, $15,000 and $25,000.
