This home on a shady side street in the Roscoe Village neighborhood was home to our young clients and their (soon to be) new arrival. Seeing the need for more play space for the new infant – and just maybe the parents, too – we designed the rooftop space into 4 distinct areas with specific functions.

First was the centrally-located kitchen area, featuring a built-in DCS grill and refrigerator, an ice bin and countertops of PaperStone®, a recycled paper product. The custom cabinetry, all by CSG, offers plenty of storage space. Off the kitchen is the dining room, covered by a pergola and sliding ShadeTree shade panels overhead and Vintage Gold paver stone beneath. Multiple planter boxes filled with ornamental lilacs and native shrubs soften the space, decorative river rock fills in the odd and angular spaces and privacy paneling cuts the wind and screens unwanted power lines and buildings. A custom copper water feature of CSG design greets arriving guests.

At the opposite end of the rooftop sits the lounge area, featuring a firepit by Ore and a stylish but very comfortable all-weather lounge collection by Dedon. From here one can take in the LED light strips installed beneath the edges of the wooden walkways, lending a hip but functional touch to this cool adult space. Last but not least is the synthetic sport grass play area for the newest member of the family, allowing everyone their own space to enjoy the Chicago skyline on a summer’s eve.
