Occasionally a simple element “makes” or “breaks” a garden. The perfect vase. The wrong plant. In this case, our client’s selection of simple light bulb strings strung around their new rooftop definitely “made it”, and provided just the right touch to complete the space.

We started by building one of our signature ipe Shade Cabanas, along with a daybed and storage benches. Ipe privacy panels along the walls block unwanted views, electrical cables and poles. Then we added several aluminum Ore containers; soft grasses; upright hornbeam trees; boxwood; and river birch.Custom cushions and pillows came next, along with landscape lighting and micro-irrigation.

Then our clients added blocky, colorful cubes from DWR; a gas-fueled fire pit; glass top table; and the party lights. The combination of dark wood and bamboo; colorful cushions; plantings and evening lights combine to create a setting that’s hard to describe. Part carnival. Part zen garden. All cool.
