Innovative pergolas feature controllable aluminum louvers which keep out rain, wind and excessive sun.
Our clients in Chicago’s DePaul neighborhood were interested in more than just enjoying summer evenings in their garden. In particular, they wanted a rain-free, heated lounge option for their garage roof. What could be done?
We contacted our friends at Solisysteme and arranged to install one of their Bioclimatic pergolas. These innovative pergolas feature controllable aluminum louvers which keep out rain, wind and excessive sun – they have a rain sensor which closes the louvers when rain is detected – as well as radiant heaters which warm the space to the desired level. LED lighting is dimmable via a remote control. And the clean lines of the pergola perfectly complement the contemporary furnishings and planters we designed for the space.
The bar, fridge, fire feature and sectional furniture combine to create a warm and inviting entertainment space for parties large or small. Opaque glass panels and ipe screening provide wind, sound and visual buffering.
Down below, the kitchen garden features mixed veggie/herb plantings, built-in grill and seating for 8. A sleek aluminum railing system allows transparency and flow between the two spaces.
This versatility allows use of the garden in any – and every! – season.
