CSG was asked to develop a design for this 3,000 square foot deck space on Chicago’s Gold Coast for our Client, The Pinnacle Condominiums.   Designed by Lucien Lagrange, the building’s limestone facade, distinctive clean styling and ornamental touches needed to be respected in our roof deck design.  We started by closely matching the building’ s color  pallette with Italian porcelain deck pavers and Brazilian ipe wood panels, rich and detailed.  Next came Ocean Master umbrellas from Tuuci, created from marine grade woods and hardware to last a lifetime, and more. These umbrellas  cantilever over various “rooms” within the overall design, and offer flexibility, shade and protection from the high winds typical of the downtown area.

Aluminum plant containers of differing sizes break up the large space, buffering the winds and offering sun bathers, diners and book readers their own spaces.   Synthetic lawn offers a kid’s play area, and tables and chairs  from Janus et Cie and sectional furniture from Gloster offer creature comforts.   Native  grasses, birch and redbud trees, and boxwood hedges soften the  space, and are lit at night by a mix of uplights, pathlights and bollards.

Planter boxes along the building hold wildly colorful annuals and an automatic irrigation system, and are watered twice a day for maximum growth and health.

Finally, two grills and two fire features offer the fun and warmth of an outdoor barbecue to the lucky residents of the building and their  guests.   This is truly a resort-like setting and  experience!
